Market Summary
Jakarta composite fell 74.359 points (-1.125%) to 6,533.932. LQ45 tumbled 2.08% to 930.975. There were 26.99 billion shares traded worth of Rp20.67 trillion, including transaction of Rp1.706 billion in negotiation market. 182 shares rose while 351 declined and 131 unchanged. Foreign investors sold a net Rp782.68 billion in regular market.
Index opened higher after U.S. president’s statement eased tension while statement from Moderna CEO and tighter mobility curbs in Jakarta spooks market.
According to JISDOR released Tuesday afternoon, Rupiah climbed 20 cents (-0.14%) at 14,320 while spot rate stayed at 14,320.
Stocks in global markets tumbled along with U.S. futures amid fresh concerns about the efficacy of existing vaccines against the omicron coronavirus strain.
The head of drugmaker Moderna said COVID-19 vaccines are unlikely to be as effective against the Omicron variant of the coronavirus as they have been previously, sparking fresh worry in financial markets about the trajectory of the pandemic.
On the data front, China’s official manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index for November came in at 50.1 on Tuesday, above expectations of 49.6.
In Europe, data releases show France’s final third-quarter gross domestic product growth was confirmed at 3% quarter on quarter, while inflation rose to an annual rate of 3.4% in November, its highest since September 2008. German unemployment figures for November. In the meantime, euro-area inflation for November is set to reach its highest on record.
The U.S. 10-year Treasury yield sank with commodity while yen and gold climbed.
Stateside, investors are looking ahead to key economic data set to be released this week, including the November jobs report on Friday which is expected to show solid jobs growth.
Oil prices plunged again with Brent fell $1.94 (-2.64%) at $71.50 per barrel and U.S WTI declined $1.61 (-2.30%) at $68.34 a barrel.
