Market Update: JCI extend rally and rupiah climbs
- Retail sales in Indonesia grew by 4.1% year-on-year in June 2022, faster than a 2.9% rise a month earlier which was the softest pace in eight months.
U.K. retail sales rose 1.6% in July, buoyed by a heatwave and sales of hot-weather clothing, picnic items and electric fans, according to a report from the British Retail Consortium. - Indonesian stocks extended gains for a seventh consecutive day despite volatile sessions in global markets.
- Jakarta composite up 16.031 points (+0.226%) to 7,102.88 while LQ45 climbed 0.155% to 1,008.705. There were 31.367 billion shares traded worth of Rp15.348 trillion, including transaction of Rp1.378 trillion in negotiation market. 234 shares rose while 300 declined and 158 unchanged.
- According to JISDOR Tuesday afternoon, rupiah climbed 53 points (+0.36%) to 14,862 while spot rate added 25 points (+0.17%) to 14,850.

Global markets
- Stocks in Asia were mixed on Tuesday amid a global fall in technology shares while investors cautiously waiting for key U.S. inflation data later in the week for hints on the Federal Reserve’s next move.
- Singapore and India markets are closed for a holiday on Tuesday.
- On the data front, U.K. retail sales rose 1.6% in July, buoyed by a heatwave and sales of hot-weather clothing, picnic items and electric fans, according to a report from the British Retail Consortium.
- The U.S. Consumer price index data due Wednesday stateside.
Commodities
- Oil prices pulled back slightly on Tuesday on the latest progress in last-ditch talks to revive the 2015 Iran nuclear accord, which would clear the way to boost its crude exports in a tight market.
- Gold prices held on to recent gains on Tuesday with focus is now on U.S. CPI data for July.
