Stock Market Highlights
Jakarta composite retreated 45.51 points (-0.677%) to 6,677.876. LQ45 slipped 0.55% to 958.388. There were 27.517 billion shares traded worth of Rp14.932 trillion, including transaction of Rp805 billion in negotiation market. Foreign investors sold net Rp142.23 billion in regular market. 177 shares rose while 349 declined and 142 unchanged.
Nine sectors dragged index down from its record high with MTEL closed higher but became the most sold by foreigners followed by BBRI and SMGR
According to JISDOR released Tuesday afternoon, Rupiah weakened 17 points (-0.12%) at 14,272 while spot rate slipped 10 points (-0.07%) to 14,255.
Shares in Asia were mixed while Europeans retreated in Tuesday trade as investors reacted to U.S. President Joe Biden picking Jerome Powell for a second term as Federal Reserve chair, reinforcing expectations the U.S. will taper its stimulus soon.
European market attention on Tuesday are focused on flash PMI data for the euro zone in November with French and German PMIs both came in stronger than expected.
The latest surge of Covid-19 cases in Europe also continue weighing on sentiment as further lockdowns loom.
Markets in Japan were closed on Tuesday for a holiday.
U.S. Treasury yields are higher again this morning after 5-8 bps rises on Tuesday, while the dollar has moved into a fifth straight week of gains against a basket of currencies.
Oil prices were in the red again after a short rebound the previous day. Brent fell 84 cents (-1.05%) at $78.86 per barrel and U.S WTI declined $1.09 (-1.42%) at $75.66 a barrel. The United States may also unveil an emergency oil release later in the day to dent energy prices.
